Normally we could enjoy a little bit of leisure after harvesting of the second crop of rice. But the winter of 1973 was busy, especially in our ZhiQing spot. Because a big group of high school graduates were sent to our commune. That day, we were happy to welcome ten more new ZhiQing to our spot. Yes life was boring here. We always hoped something new would happen to us. The old house seemed too small for us. So the Commune decided to build another one- a new ZhiQing spot to us. Of course, the commune had no money for that, everything was paid by the central government. For this campaign was considered as a very important part of the Culture Revolution, a strategy of anti-capitalism.
Tourism, a sunrise industry all over the world, is the strategic pillar industry of Guilin city. People in Guilin used a lot of bamboo products in old time. Housewife carried bamboo for shopping in the market everyday, children played bamboo toys in the street, like water gun, catapult and bow. Also most furniture was made of bamboo for the family. I still remember parents moved bamboo bed to the outside in hot summer night. How nice, we sleep on the cool bamboo bed to watch the sky and count stars. Even the pillow and mattress were made of bamboo. You know, summer is hot and long in Guilin, because its located in the subtropical region. People used bamboo furniture to make you cool off in summer.
Last month I went Daxu with a group from UK. Actually they only plan to stay in Guilin for two nights with full activities, but the second day the Li River got big flooding, the cruise was canceled. People cant stay in the hotel doing nothing. So I recommended they go to visit the Ancient Town of Daxu.
Dao Xian, less than 100 kilometers to its neighboring county of Guilin in Guangxi Province, is a small little county of Yongzhou City in Hunan Province. It is not a famous hot spot for tourists, it is not crawling with other travelers, and it isnt extremely beautiful, but man is it a fun place. I spent a lot of time there, mostly because my friend lived there, but also because it was just such a great place to visit every once and a while.
Chinese Noodles has a history of 4,000 years according to an archeological discovery in Qinghai Province where a 50-centimeter-long noodle made of millet was unearthed. Eating Noodles is a part of birthday celebrations in China. Long noodles stand for longevity in Chinese culture. Noodles are regarded as the staple food in North China and usually served as breakfast in South China. The reason lies in the two agricultural patterns in China: wheat and millet are mainly produced in North Chinawhile rice is mainly produced in South China. Chinese Noodles are generally made from wheat flour, rice flour, tapioca starch or any kind of starch, with eggs, peanuts, meat, shrimps, vegetables and so forth as ingredients. The most common noodles are wheat flour noodles and rice noodles.
I was young and had been working for quite a time as a teacher when Spring Festival came around. Now for those who dont know during Spring Festival we get a month off! Thats right, it was like a dream! So, me and my roommate at the time jumped on a bus and went to Xia Men. When we left Guilin it was down in the high thirties (Fahrenheit), and when we got to Xia Men it was about 80, and sunny. I hadnt seen the sea in years, nor had I felt its breeze brush across my face. So when I stepped off that bus and smelled the sea, felt it, and had the sun on me it was like heaven.
Guilin is known for a few things, Elephant Trunk Hill, Seven Star Park,Li River, its weird mountains, its spicy food, and a bunch of other stuff. My favorite place in Guilin is the top of any mountain where there's no one next to me.
