Shanxi, as one of the birthplaces of Chinese nation, always impresses visitors with its profound history and culture. Now that we are approaching May, Shanxi witnesses the best travelling season. This national AAAA scenic spot - Lotus Mountain Scenic Area, located 14 kilometres away from the northwestern part of Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County, covers an area of 16,000 square metres, with its main peak reaching a height of 1,350 metres above sea level. Seen from afar, the ranges upon ranges of mountains look like lotus in bud, hence the name.
It is often said that Chinese people form their eating habits in accordance to the geological factors, which is not only a wisdom of adapting themselves to the local conditions, but also a way of survival for Chinese complying with Nature. Chinese people meticulously make full use of the land under their feet and intelligently acquire food, whether from alluvial plain, rivers and lakes, or from untraversed plateau, cities of skyscrapers. Where there is green, there is harmony between human beings and Nature.

Guilin is known for a few things, Elephant Trunk Hill, Seven Star Park,Li River, its weird mountains, its spicy food, and a bunch of other stuff. My favorite place in Guilin is the top of any mountain where there's no one next to me.
Being one of the three major religions in the world, Buddhism was founded between the 6th and the 4th century B.C. by Siddhartha Gautama, a prince of Kapilavastu (a region of the ancient Shakya kingdom) of ancient India. It was introduced into China via the Silk Road approximately at the 1st century according to Chinese historical records and was spread throughout the country soon. Until today, Buddhism still influences many Chinese's thoughts and values more or less in their daily life and the Five Sacred Mountains of Buddhism commonly recognized in the ancient time are still widely believed as the ashrams of the five major Buddhas of Buddhism.

Yet another aspect of traditional Chinese culture I find myself completely enthralled by is ancient Chinese religion and philosophy.With a history as long as China’s, there’s little wonder how such a wide variety of colorful belief systems and practices have manifested over the ages and embedded themselves in the heart of traditional society.To be sure, each has taken shape in popular culture in their own distinct way and offer unique perspectives on the Chinese way of life, although the philosophic doctrine I seem to personally resonate with is Daoism (or Taoism).

Last Friday I had the privilege of visiting the Tea Science and Research Institute of Guilin, Guangxi (广西桂林茶叶科学研究所). Through a friend of a friend, a couple of my buddies and I were able to spend a beautiful autumn afternoon on a special tour of the Tea Institutes facilities and fields. Whats more, as a self-proclaimed tea enthusiast, I was particularly excited for the outing and could not have thought of a better way to enjoy the local scenery and weather.
