2012-02-10 | China travel Guide
To have a better knowledge and to learn latest news about our frequently recommended hotels in Guilin, our company organized a short visit to some Guilin hotels on Feb.7. With great honor, I had the chance to visit the eight selected ones with my other three colleagues from Russian Department. The hotels this time we had visitedwere Jin-tong Guilin Hotel, Fubo Hotel, Hotel Universal Guilin, Guilin Eva Inn, Hotel Grand 0773 , Guilin Osmanthus Hotel, Hanting Express (the Elephant Hill Park branch) and Guilin Inn.
After one months cold and rainy days in Guilin, the weather turns to fine with bright sunshine finally during the Chinese New Year. According to Chinese, it is a propitious omen for a smooth and prosperous new year. Traditionally, in Guilin on the first day of Chinese lunar year, people go out to the streets or in parks instead of staying at home; the way Guilin people put it, to walk for a wealth and good fortunes.

Honestly speaking, wage days are always kept on our mind every month, but sometimes there is more than salary to look forward to, for example, the annual year-end company travel. Im not sure whether companies abroad will organize a tour for their staff at the end of the year, but it is indeed a tradition for Chinese travel agencies to take a short trip before the Spring Festival (Chinese Lunar New Year), which always falls in January or February. No exception happened and Hong Kong was decided to be our destination this year.
Known as a section of the scenic water system of two river and four lakes in Guilin, the Mulong Lake (木龙湖), literally Wooden Dragon Lake, is an artificial lake connecting the Li River in the east and channeling the water into the downtown area of the city. Leaning against the several hundreds old Song city wall and the Diecai Hill, the lake was named after the Mulong Hole on the upper part of the hill, and so is the 45-meter-high Mulong Tower and the Mulong Arch Bridge stretching over the Mulong Lake. On the other and of the bridge there are waterside pavilions where actresses in Chinese ancient dress perform classic Chinese music show in the evening.
Painted Guilin in winter
2012-01-06 | Life in Guilin
The winter in Guilin fells with rain finally in December. The sharply dropping temperature (4 Celsius degree) at the last week of the month colored some trees such as maples and maidenhair trees and is decorating the city with colorful leaves. Thank goodness, it cleared up again and a blue sky of spring contrasted vividly with the leaves, creating an extraordinarily beautiful scene. To catch the masterpieces of the nature, I went out to take some pictures of that specially.
Time flies so fast that it is time for us to welcome the brand new 2012. Looking back to the past year, we can factually remember and feel every detail of our work overtime for handling inquiries and emails at the office in the evening, double checking and ensuring booking information with suppliers, helping customers in their course of travel with various problems by phone, etc. Most of the time we were as busy as a bee, but all of the tiredness turned into joyousness of feeling relieved finally when all these problems were successfully solved.

A big family pork feast for the New Year has been being the traditional customs in China since the ancient time. In the past decade, it seemed that life of more and more Chinese was invaded by restaurants, but in recent years it is becoming the order of the day that companies and businessmen gather their stuff and partners to have an authentic pork meal at some suburb of their cities at the end of the year, creating a chance of non-working communication or of discussion about further development and cooperation in the coming year.
