Day 1

Sightseeing: Dazhao Lamasery, Inner Mongolia Museum.

Upon arrive in Hohhot, you will be met by your local guide and then be transferred to your hotel.

Visit Dazhao Lamasery, the Lamasery was built in 1579 under the reign of Aratan Khan, chief of the Tumd Tribe. As the temple enshrines a 2.5-meter-tall statue of Buddha made completely of silver, it is also called "Silver Buddha Temple." The Third Dalai Lama from Tibet visited Dazhao to chair the "opening-the-light" Buddhist ceremony. The Lamasery boasts a large collection of religious relics, of which the silver statue of Buddha, dragon sculpture and frescos are the best known.

Then you will move to the Inner Mongolia Museum. This Museum is the largest and best museum in Inner Mongolia, boasting a good selection of ethnic Mongolian items, and a historical lineage of this vast grassland province. Although not arranged in the most logical of order, the museum contains a variety of interesting exhibitions that should keep you interested. The captions in the museum are unfortunately only in Chinese and Mongolian, but most of the pieces pretty much speak for themselves.

Sightseeing: Gegentala Grassland. Enjoy Nadam Festival (25 July – 29 July, 2010)

After breakfast, drive to the Gegentala Grassland. After arriving at the grassland, go to the stud farms to select the horse for riding. The cost for horse riding is not included in the tour package. You are supposed to talk with the herdsmen. Normally it costs RMB 150 per round, which takes about 2 hours including the horse riding, visiting Aobao hill and visiting a Mongolian family. After the horse riding, watching the routine performance at 5:00pm given by the Gegentala Grassland including horse racing and wrestling performance. After dinner, enjoying bonfire party in the evening starting at 9:00 or 9:30am. Stay at deluxe yurt. You can enjoy the Nadam Festival during 25 July to 29 July.

Sightseeing: Resonant Sand Bay

Get up early to watch the sunrise in the morning. Drive to Baotou, visit Resonant Sand Bay. The Resonant Sand Bay 45km from Baotou Backed by the Kubuqi Desert, the dunes are crescent-shaped with a height of 90 meters and a gradient of 45-degrees. When it's dry, the dunes make a sound, hence the name "Resonant Sand Bay." Sliding down from the slopes of the dunes, one can hear sounds like a bugle, drumbeat, and the sound of automobile and aircraft engines, a natural phenomenon as yet unexplained. If several people are surfing together, the sound will be as loud as a large bell, giving the feeling that the whole dune is trembling.

In the afternoon, continue drive to Erdos.

Day 4

Erdos/Baotou/Departure (B, L)

Sightseeing: Genghis Khan's Mausoleum

After breakfast, your guide will accompany you to visit Genghis Khan's Mausoleum. Situated in the Ejin Horo Banner of Ordos City, the mausoleum, covering 55,544 square meters, consists of three Mongolian yurt-shaped halls, covered with colorful glazed tiles. On the 21st of March, the 15th of May, 12th of September, the 3rd of October in the lunar calendar every year, the Darhut people will hold a grand memorial ceremony with sacrificial offerings. In the year 2000, it was appraised as the state 4A-level tourism area.  

Then drive back to Baotou. You will be transferred to airport/railway station for your departure.

Drive to Baotou, visit Resonant Sand Bay. Continue drive to Erdos.

Visit Genghis Khan's Mausoleum. Drive back to Baotou. Then you will be transferred to airport/railway station for your departure.
