Railway bridge planned across Hangzhou Bay

created: 2008-10-23

A railway bridge across Hangzhou Bay is set to be built by 2020 at a cost of 20 billion yuan (US$2.92b), according to the Oriental Morning Post today.

The span will be parallel with Hangzhou Bridge, which opened earlier this year.

The bridge will serve as part of the Huyong railway project linking Shanghai with Ningbo City in Zhejiang Province. The project has been listed in the national Mid- and Long-term Railway Network Plan.

Railway construction headquarters in Ningbo City said the route would stretch 150 kilometers based on a preliminary plan and the span would be built west of Hangzhou Bridge, the report said.

It will be a part of a coastal railway network that will decrease travel time between Shanghai and Shenzhen City in Guangdong Province.
