Hainan to Allow Domestic Visitors to Apply Tax Rebate in May
updated: 2011-03-14
Hainan, China's only tropical island, will apply its tax refund program to domestic tourists from May 1, 2011.
The provincial government has said it will release details of the tax rebate policy in late April. Tourists are expected to be able to buy goods worth of CNY5,000 under the tax refund scheme.
On January 1, 2011, the Hainan Island inaugurated its tax-rebate policy, which allows foreign travelers, and visitors from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau to apply for a tax rebate of 11% on their total purchases when departing from Hainan.
