Tibet Reports 29% Increase in Tourist Arrivals
updated: 2010-08-24
The Tibet Tourism Bureau has reveled that the Tibet Autonomous Region earned CNY287.7 million in tourism revenues during the first seven months of 2010, representing a year-on-year growth of 29.3%.
In the period from January to July, the number of tourist arrivals increased 21.9% from a year earlier to 3.31 million. The number of inbound tourists jumped 45.3% year on year to 120,000 as the provincial government marketed its tourism resources in emerging markets such as Oceania and Eastern Europe.
An official at the tourism bureau said that Tibet's tourism sector had been developing very well in the first seven months of the year, partly thanks to the government's promotion strategies.
In the second half of 2010, the local government will further develop its three key tourism brands, namely "The Roof of the World", "The Holy Snow Country", and "Trail Days Road".
