3D Art: Getting in the Picture

A special exhibition was held in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. Visitors are being encouraged to take photos and even interact with the paintings. Crowds are flocking to the Magic Art Special Exhibition - eager to pose for photos that seem to draw them into the art.

 

Here on display are eighty-three oil paintings created by 20 South Korean artists. They were painted in 2 dimensions, but employing a creative syle to lend an impressive 3D effect in pictures.

 

Some even compared the effect to watching a 3D movie.

 

Visitor Lu Qin said, "I feel that there is still a difference between a 3D movie and 3D art. Usually, 3D movies are shown at the cinema and they are perhaps a little more abstract. But looking at the photos I took here today, it looks as if I had brought my son straight into the paintings."

 

Her 10-year-son ran from one painting to the next for the photos. Clearly he thought the trip was well worth it.

 

Visitor Zhao Zhekai said, "3D art exhibitions are much more fun than regular ones. When I stand beside the painting, it is as though I am in it. Or perhaps you can say it in another way - the people in the paintings look so real."

 

The exhibition ran in South Korea for three years before being introduced to China. Organisers now plan to send the show on the road across the nation over the next year and a half.
