The municipal government of Tianjin, a coastal city in northeastern China, has announced that it plans to construct 3,000 permanent berths by the end of 2011, as part of its efforts to meet the demand of the city's fast-developing yachting industry.

According to a government official Tianjn — which borders Hebei province and Beijing municipality, and bounded to the east by the Gulf of Bohai and the Yellow Sea — has unique advantages for the development of the yachting industry.

The local government has said it will develop a supply chain, including yacht manufacturing, display and sale, and maintenance services, for the yachting business, as it aims to build a yachting industry base in north China.

It is estimated that Tianjin will have a demand for 3,000 yachts and more than 10,000 berths in the next few years.
