UA to Launch Shanghai-LA Route
updated: 2011-03-11
United Airlines has announced that it will start operating daily non-stop flights between Los Angeles and Shanghai from May 20, 2011.
The new service will be operated using Boeing 777 aircraft.
With the new service UA will be operating nine daily round flights between the USA and China: including daily flights linking Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong with San Francisco, Chicago, and New York.
Jim Compton, UA's executive vice president and chief revenue officer, said China is the most important international market for the new United, and is also the second largest aviation market globally and the number one market in the Asian-Pacific region.
Compton cited forecasts from the U.S. Travel and Tourism Administration that more than two million Chinese tourists are expected to visit the USA in the coming four years, and three million American tourists are expected to visit China.
