Shenyang: Five-star Hotel in Spring Festival Fire
updated: 2011-02-11
On the eve of China's Spring Festival, the five-star Dynasty Wanxin Hotel Shenyang was destroyed by a blaze started by fireworks to celebrate the festival.
Reports from local media say the fire broke out at 00:13 on February 3, 2011 at Tower B, an apartment building of the Dynasty Wanxin building complex, and the flames quickly spread to the adjacent Tower A, which includes a five-star hotel.
A landmark of Shenyang, the three-tower Dynasty Wanxin building complex is located on bustling Qingnian Street in Heping District.
There were only a few people in the hotel and apartment building at the time of the fire and no casualties had been reported.
Spring Festival fires are common in China. In 2009 a fire attributed to fireworks destroyed an uncompleted hotel next to the iconic Beijing headquarters of state broadcaster CCTV.
