Ox Warehouse, exhibition venue of Old Ladies' House Art Space

Initially a simple warehouse for medical inspection of ox, the Ox Warehouse deserves recognition because it is now the exhibition venue of the Old Ladies' House Art Space, a folk non-profit art association. Exhibitions of artworks including paintings, sculptures, posters, multimedia, etc, are held regularly in the Ox Warehouse. Opened in 2002, the art space presents exhibitions to shed light on local contemporary art, thus it provides an alternative platform for showcasing art works that can not enter Macau Museum. Macau native art is not as avant-guard as that of Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu and Hong Kong. However, it has its own style influenced by early Portugal artists. The art space holds activities to promote local arts, making Ox Warehouse a communication and experimental platform for artistic creation.

The Ox Warehouse contains two exhibition spaces, a drama library, an arts reference room, a bookstore, workshops of child drawing, handicrafts, pottery, teenagers’ music. On Sundays the Ox Warehouse is especially romantic with coffee seats. Funded by Macau government, Old Ladies’ House Art Space once held many influential exhibitions in Ox Warehouse.
