Upon your arrival in Chengdu you will be met by your local guide and then be transferred to your hotel.

The Thatched Cottage of Dufu, located by the side of the Huanhua Stream in Chengdu's western suburb, will be our fist stop. It was the residence of Dufu, the great poet of the Tang Dynasty when he took refuge in Chengdu. Du Fu (712-70 AD),one of China's most famous poets, left home at the tender age of 20, becoming a court official at the former capital in Chang'an (near Xi'an). Du Fu's civil service duties did not last long however, and he was captured by rebels and forced to flee the city for Chengdu after only a few years. It was in Chengdu, at this small and simple house, that Du Fu was inspired to write more than 200 poems which are regarded today as masterpieces of realist poetry.

And then you will visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple. The Temple is dedicated to Zhuge Liang, the Martial Marquis of Shu in the Three Kingdoms. His outstanding intelligence place Zhuge Liang above all emperors, generals, and ministers in history.

Chengdu (B, L)

Sightseeing: Dujiangyan Irrigation Center, Mt Qingcheng, Shangqing Temple, Tianshi Temple

We will start today's tour with a visit of Dujiangyan Irrigation Center. In China, Chengdu is always praised as the Tian Fu Zhi Guo, which means 'Nature's Storehouse'. Over 2,200 years ago, the city was threatened by the frequent floods caused by flooding of the Minjiang River. Li Bing, a local official of Sichuan Province at that time decided to construct an irrigation system on the Minjiang River to prevent flooding. After a lengthy study and a lot of hard work by the local people, the great Dujiangyan Irrigation Project was completed.

Then we will head to Mt. Qingcheng, the birthplace of Taoism, which is celebrated in a series of ancient temples. Originally called Old Man Mountain, it is located in the southwest of Dujiangyan City, Sichuan Province, and covers an area of some 100 kilometers, the highest peak being 1600 meters above sea level. Surrounded by countless peaks and densely covered by tall ancient trees, Qingcheng Mountain is known as the most secluded mountain in China.

Afterwards we will visit Shangqing Temple and Tianshi Temple.

Sightseeing: Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base, Sanxingdui Ruins

This morning we will visit the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base, which was built to imitate the wild ecological environment of pandas. It covers a space of 92 acres, with a green coverage of 96 percent. The base created a perfect ecological environment for the living and breeding of pandas and other precious and rare wild animals. It breeds over 20 pandas and lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white cranes and others.

Then we will drive to Sanxingdui Ruins. In the long-history city there are green hills and fresh water, the scenery is beautiful, the climate is gentle, the product is rich. The name Sanxingdui means the three-star mounds at the ruins, indicating three stars in company with the moon. The scientific discoveries and excavation to Sanxingdui unveiled the history of 5,000 years of ancient Shu.
