Day 1

-

Enjoy a full-day sightseeing tour of Beijing by 22-seat bus. Your day’s activities start with a hotel pick-up and visit to Beijing Zoo, where you will meet the lovely Giant Pandas. Continue to the largest Lama temple in Beijing, then tour the old Beijing hutongs (lanes) by rickshaw. Finally, take pictures of the striking Bird's Nest and Water Cube buildings from the Olympic Games.

Once an imperial garden of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Beijing Zoo was reconstructed as a private garden by Fu Kang’an. In 1906, during the Qing Dynasty, the garden was developed as a zoo attached to the Experimental Farm. It opened to the public the following year and is an immense hit, thanks in part to the wide-eyed and lovable Giant Pandas.

Continue to Yong He Palace (Yonghe Gong), Beijing's biggest Lama temple. Upon entering the temple, you will be immediately struck by the aromatic smell of incense and the sound of candles fluttering in the breeze. The temple hangs heavy with incense smoke, as people line up to worship in silence. All that can be heard and felt is the gentle breeze blowing through the temple, and the light clinking of religious bells.

Next, tour the Beijing hutongs, some of the city’s most emblematic spots that symbolize Beijing’s long history. As an important part of the culture, and way of life of long-time Beijingers, the hutongs are cherished for their rich traditions. Tour the hutongs and soak up the authentic Beijing atmosphere the best way possible; on board a traditional rickshaw. Listen to the chatter of the locals, and immerse yourself in the city’s history.

Finally, stop to take photographs of the striking Bird’s Nest and Water Cube, two of the most iconic buildings from the 2008 Olympic Games, and a striking contemporary contrast to the old hutongs.
