Macao's Visitor Arrivals Soar 30.6% in June

Macao's visitor arrivals in June significantly went up by 30.6 percent over the same period of last year to 2.415 million, according to the figures released on Friday by Macao's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

The significant year-on-year growth in June was due to the fact that A/H1N1 flu pandemic severely affected local tourism last year, the DSEC said.

Chinese mainland remained Macao's major source market, accounting for 51.7 percent of the total, standing at 985,127. Visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan rose respectively by 15.7 percent and 19.9 percent year-on-year to 569,353 and 107,204, the figures indicated.

As for the first half of 2010, visitor arrivals reached 12.23 million, rising by 17.9 percent over last year, with the majority of visitors coming from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, according to the DSEC.

Same-day visitors accounted for 51.9 percent of the total visitor arrivals in the first half of 2010, at 6.35 million in the first six months of 2010, the DSEC also said.
