Tibet reach first traveling peak of 2009

The Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) witnessed the first traveling surge of 2009 during the Spring Festival holidays.

According to the statistics from the Tibet Tourism Bureau, Tibet received 57,625 tourists during the holidays, up 2.2 percent from the same period in 2008, with the revenue totaling 39 million yuan, or a 1.8 percent year-on-year increase.
The number of group tourists stays much the same as last year, while that of tourists driving their own cars and local tourists increased substantially. Lhasa and Nyingchi are the hottest spots for tourists.

"Tibet saw its winter tour peak during the Spring Festival holidays," a leading official of the bureau said, "in addition, we set a record in the absence of complaints from tourists and accidents during this period."
