Beijing-Shanghai HSR Begins Trial Run

China's Beijing to Shanghai high-speed rail link is undergoing trials for a month.
Wang Yongping, a spokesperson from Chinese Ministry of Railways, told local media that trial runs will be based on the actual train schedules, and the Beijing-Shanghai HSR is expected to be fully operational in June 2011.
The 1,318-kilometer long Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail link is designed to support speeds of 350 kilometers per hour. The railway will be able to transport 80 million passengers a year.
Wang also said the authorities would open an online ticket service for the Beijing-Shanghai HSR railway by the end of June 2011. However ticket prices have yet to be decided.
