Beijing Yandaixie Street Listed as Famous Historical Street
updated: 2010-11-16
Beijing's Yandaixie Street — also known as Tobacco Pipe Lane — has been granted the title of "China's Famous Historical and Cultural Street" by the Ministry of Culture and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.
Yandaixie Street is the capital's second Famous Historical and Cultural Street, after Guozijian Street in Outer Andingmen, Dongcheng District was listed in 2009.
Yandaixie Street runs northwest from Dianmen Wai street for 232 meters and intersects with Xiao Shi Pai Hutong and Yaer Hutong.
At the end of Qing Dynasty many tobacco pipe shops were opened in this street to meet increasing demand by smokers, so it was named Yandaixie Street.
After a period of reconstruction the street has become one of the most popular scenic spots in Beijing among tourists from home and abroad.
