Transfer via: Flight on your own arrangement

Upon your arrival in Beijing you will be greeted by our local guide and then transferred to your hotel by a private air-conditioned car. For the rest of the day you will enjoy some leisure time.

Day 2 Beijing (B, L)

Beijing (B, L)

Sightseeing: Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City

This morning our tour will begin with a visit of the Temple of Heaven, which was completed in 1420, and expanded over the years by two Qing Dynasty Emperors. It was the place where the Emperor came every winter solstice to worship heaven and to solemnly pray for a good harvest. With the three blue-tiled cone-shaped roofs, a unique wooden and blue-tiled structure built without a nail, it has become a worldwide symbol of Beijing.

After lunch, we will go on our city tour to visit Tiananmen Square, the symbolical heart of China and gathering place for the masses. It is the biggest public square in the world, which can hold one million people.

From here we will walk across the Golden River Bridge to visit the Forbidden City and experience the ancient Emperor's daily life. For 5 centuries Chinese emperors carried out their administration here. With almost 10,000 rooms, it was the centre of the Ming and Qing dynasties, a massive complex of palaces, pavilions, courtyards and gardens where 24 emperors used to live. Forbidden City was the largest palace in the world, and in the past it was indeed a forbidden place for commoners. Your tour here will include private access to the Emperor's palace.

Day 3 Beijing (B, L)

Beijing (B, L)

Sightseeing: Badaling Great Wall, Ming Tombs, Sacred Way.

After experiencing the royal lifestyle, today we will be transferred to the surrounding countryside of Beijing and visit the Badaling Great Wall, the pride of China and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Whereas Genghis Khan contemplated it as a military obstacle, Richard Nixon described it as one of humankind's greatest achievements. You will be able to climb and walk one of the best preserved sections of the 2,000 years old ancient wall, admiring the splendid mountain views. Bring a jacket and layer- although it is breezy, the climbing is tough. So be in a good shape!

In the afternoon we will visit the legendary Ming Tombs, which are situated at the foot of Heavenly Longevity Mountain, Changping, northwest of Beijing. Since there are 13 Ming emperors buried there, this place was called the 13 Ming Tombs. You will walk along the Sacred Way, a road guarded by stone statues on both sides, as the ancient emperors did to hold a memorial ceremony for their ancestors. In addition, you will encounter the marble tombs of the Ming Dynasty emperors.

Day 4 Beijing to Datong (B, L)

Beijing to Datong (B, L)

Transfer via: Flight on our arrangement
Sightseeing: The Shang Huayan Monastery, The Yungang Grottoes, Datong Nine-Dragon Screen Wall

This morning, you will be transferred to airprot to take morning fligt to Datong. After your arrival in Datong, you will be met and transferred to your hotel by our local guide.

Today we will first visit the Huayan Monastery. The Huayan Monastery complex is located on Daxi Street on the south western side of Datong City. There are two separate sections to the monastery, the upper one referred to as the Grand Hall housing five large Ming Dynasty Buddhas, and the lower section referred to as the Sutra Temple containing a library of some 18,000 volumes of Buddhist writings. Built during the Liao Dynasty (907 - 1125), the Huayan Monastery is the largest and best preserved monastery of the Liao Dynasty in existence in China. This monastery was built according to the Huayan Sutra Sect of the Huayan School and is unique in that it faces east instead of south.

Then we will head to the Yungang Grottoes. Yungang Grottoes, one of the three major cave clusters in China, punctuate the north cliff of Wuzhou Mountain, Datong. The area was excavated along the mountain, extending 1 km (0.62 miles) from east to west, revealing 53 caves and over 51,000 stone statues.

Finally visit the Nine-Dragon Screen Wall, which is presently the oldest and largest glazed screen in China today. It is three times larger than that in Beihai Park, Beijing City. The screen, It is made up of 426 specially-fired glazed bricks, with a height of 8 meters (about 26 feet), 2.02 meters (6.6 feet) thick and 45.5 meters (149 feet) long. The Screen can be divided into three parts, the pedestal, body and roof.

Day 5 Datong (B, L)

Datong (B, L)

Sightseeing: Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, Hanging Monastery

After breakfast, we will drive to visit Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, also known as Fogong Temple and Seokga Pagoda is located in the Fogong Palace of Yingxian County and was built in Qingning years of Liao Dynasty (1056). It is the oldest, largest and the best preserved wooden tower building in China. Except the 4-meter-high stone ground, the wooden pagoda did not use any nail or rivet, all materials are wooden and connected by 50 kinds of base-mat. Every floor was supported by wooden pillars from inside and outside, about 60kinds of inclined beams, wooden stumps and short pillars were used between the wooden pillars, thus, formed a wooden structure of repeated beam. The pagoda is octagonal-shaped with six eaves and nine storeys.

Then we will have a visit to Hanging Monastery. It stands at the foot of Mt. Hengshan, 5 kilometers (3 miles) south of Hunyuan County, and 65 kilometers (40 miles) from downtown Datong City. Since it hangs on the west cliff of Jinxia Gorge more than 50 meters above the ground, it is called Hanging Monastery. It is an architectural wonder. A unique mechanical theory was applied to building the framework. Crossbeams were half-inserted into the rock as the foundation, while the rock in back became its support. Seen from below, Hanging Monastery appears to be a tumble-down castle in the air. Inside, Hanging Monastery provides the same scene as other temples.

Day 6 Datong to Beijing (B, L)

Datong to Beijing (B, L)

Transfer via: Flight on our arrangement
Sightseeing: Summer Palace, Hutongs

Take morning flight back to Beijing. Upon arriving, you will be met by your Beijing guide and then visit the Summer Palace. Equally famous as the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace is called 'Yiheyuan' (Garden of Nurtured Harmony) in Chinese. Until nowadays, it is the best preserved and the largest imperial garden in China. You will regret it if you leave Beijing without having visited this grand imperial garden.

We will experience a unique Hutong tour by taking a rickshaw then. Hutongs are a kind of ancient city alley or lane and are very typical for Beijing. Most of them can be found close to the Forbidden City, and many were built during the three dynasties of Yuan, Ming and Qing. Today, the Hutong is a living museum of Beijing history showing the traditional lifestyle of Beijing people.

Day 7 Beijing Departure (B)

I want to to thank you again for your good services. Everything worked out as expected ––or better! Getting the gaotie tickets was easy, and the two excursions were most enjoyable.

Dear Sandy,

now that we have returned home after a marvellous trip through China, I want to to thank you again for your good services.

Everything worked out as expected –– or better! Getting the gaotie tickets was easy, and the two excursions were most enjoyable. In particular, the guide at Huangshan – I called her ciao Xue (Little Snow) – was attentive and intelligent, great company!

After the hike up and down on Huangshan, we felt great: we can still do that at our age in the high seventies!

Hakka Country

Finally, it was a pleasant surprise to get your call. That was unexpected, but much appreciated.

Keep selling China to the world!

Best wishes

Wolfgang

I cannot praise our guide Jason enough. He was so knowledgeable, kind and fun. He was still helping today when Lisa left money in the safe at the other hotel. It has been a fantastic trip.

Thank you so much,

Please find my comments and Feedback to our Beijing tour as follows:

Holly was a lovely tour guide. Always very punctual.

Good driver. We felt quite safe.

The day on the way to Great Wall (Mutanyu) we went to a nice restaurant which was built like a garden house. Here we got good food and good service.

Good experience from the past years. I think we booked already more than eight times through you.

5. Which part of sightseeing was the most memorable for you?

We visited the Great Wall in the afternoon. That was a good choice as there were not many people anymore and we were almost alone on the Great Wall, with fantastic weather it felt great.

The trip that you arranged for us was amazing from start to finish, thank you for your patience with arranging everything we asked for.

Dear Sandy

Thank you for your email and the photos from our trip.

I must apologise for not emailing you before now, but we have been busy and time just flies by.

The trip that you arranged for us was amazing from start to finish, thank you for your patience with arranging everything we asked for, we were tired out at the end but wanted to see as much as our time allowed.  Each place was different but we enjoyed everything. The organisation of everything was excellent, the guides were always on time, the drivers friendly and their cars clean with plenty of bottled water. The hotels were in great locations and the rooms were comfortable, the breakfasts could have been better especially at the King Parkview in Beijing (but having said that we did not go hungry). The lunches were great too, we enjoyed tasting all the different dishes.

It was really nice to be able to meet you in Guilin, it was a lovely meal (sorry we couldn’t eat more) and we hope that you enjoyed the shortbread biscuits. The Chinese knot you gave us is hanging in our car for good luck  If you would like to use any of the photographs from our trip on your website please feel free do so.

I will also leave a review on Tripadvisor.

We would have no hesitation to recommend you and your company to our friends thinking of visiting China, but most are not as independent at travelling as we are 

Please pass on our best regards to Kai, Samantha and Hannah

Sending our best wishes to you from a sunny UK

Best regards

Helen and Graham Knott

Definitely a positive feedback for your agency, if I return to China I will definitely contact you.

Jiayuguan Fort

The tour you organized for us went very well, excellent timing and communication, even the restaurant where we stopped for lunch was very good. I want to give a special compliment to the guide Jenny, who was very well prepared, a vast vocabulary, very helpful (she also solved some small problems in our organization), nice and pleasant company. She also helped us book a show and get to the theater in Dunhuang.

Even the transport in the car was very pleasant, spacious car and comfortable driving, another compliment also to the driver.
