East Cockscomb Hill / Dongjiguan Fortress


The Dongjiguan Hill was the site of one of the key battle of the Russo-Japanese War fought in 1904; today this battlefield is home to a memorial museum and some battlements that were used during the conflict. The main attractions in the East Cockscomb Hill Russo-Japanese War Site include Exhibition Hall of the relics related to the Russo-Japanese War, North Fortress, Erlong Mountain Fortress, Wangtai Forte, etc.


North Fortress of the Dongjiguan Hill

Dongjiguan Fortress, built in 1900, was considered one of the key strong-holds of the Czarist forces, a mix of concrete and cobblestone the walls were over 2 meters thick, the entire fortress was constructed in a pentagonal shape with trenches dug in every direction. It was the main ammunition depot for the Russians as well as a bunker for commanders, despite all this it fell to the Japanese in 1904 at the cost of 900 lives.

Wangtai Fortress

The Wangtai Fortress is the last battlefield where Japan and Russia fought for Lvshun City of China. despite being a lookout it also had offensive capacities two holding a twin torpedo battery which had a range of 10 kilometers, making it one of the most advanced of its time. It was overrun by Japanese in 1905, effectively signally the end of the ground conflict and the victory of the Japanese.


Mount Erlongshan Fortress

Mount Erlongshan Fortress was originally built by the Qing Dynasty and used as a battlement during the Sino-Japanese War when the Qing Dynasty resisted bravely in 1984. later the Czarist Forces rebuilt it making it bigger and better protected however it was still unable to resist the continuous attacks of the newly modernized Japanese army and eventually fell towards the end of the conflict between Russia and Japan.
