In September 2007 the congress of the Association Internationale des Producteurs de 1'Horticulure (AIPH) unanimously elected to bring the 2011 International Horticultural Exposition (IHE) to one of Chinafs most ancient and famous cities: Xifan. Following Kunming in 1999 and Shenyang in 2006, this represents the third occasion that the auspicious event will have been staged in China, in Chanba Ecological Zone of Xifan. This will be the largest exposition to be held in Xifan and in North-western China so far.
The expo will feature elegant botanical landscapes and captures the unique historical flavor of Xian as a means of combining cultural humanity and nature. It aims to encourage visitors to explore human innovation, concepts of urban life, the importance of gardens, and the benefit of living in harmony with nature.
The total investment of the 2011 Xian IHE totals at 20 Billion Yuan (~US$3Billion) and will run for 178 days and includes participants from over 100 domestic and international cities and organizations. The event is forecasted to attract more than 1.2million tourists.
