The Ming-Qing Street of Shanxi

As the essence of cultural relics of Pingyao Ancient Town in Shanxi Province, the Ming-Qing Street is located in the South Street of the town. With a length of 440 meters, the street used to be the commercial center of Pingyao ancient city. The traditional and orderly-located shops of the Ming and Qing Dynasties are still well preserved. The cross-street Town House is the highest building of the city (18.5 meters high). On its top, you can take a whole view of the Ming–Qing Street. Walking along the street, tourists can get the first-hand experience of ancient China.

Walking in the street, you may feel turning back to the ancient times. The old style buildings on both sides are arranged in order, most of which are various shops made of bricks and woods, some selling local specialties and some selling snacks and souvenirs. You can even find some signboards that you only see from the ancient costume films, such as Biaoju (Guard Service). Then you can enter the shops and know about its history. The deep tracks in the door sills can tell us how prosperous here was in that time. Buying an interesting small thing here at good value is a good choice, i.e. ancient ornament, old style lock. You send it as a small gift or buy it for yourself.
