China is a country of many peoples and many political parties. The Communist Party of China founded in July 1921 with more than 60 million members is the country’s sole political party in power, which is the leader of the Chinese people. The People’s Republic of China was founded by the Communist Party of China. The system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation led by the CPC is a basic political system in China.
All the power in the country belongs to the people who exercise their power through the National People’s Congress and local people’s congresses at all levels. The basic task of the nation is to concentrate its effort on socialist modernization and the current president is Hu Jintao.
The people's congress system is China's fundamental political system, which has extensive representation. It follows the principle of democratic centralism, and guarantees that the people enjoy extensive democracy and rights. The National People’s Congress is the highest organ of state power, elected for a term of five years, and meets in session once a year.
The State Council, the Central People's Government, is the highest state administrative body, who carries out the laws enacted and decisions adopted by the NPC and its Standing Committee and who is responsible to them, as well as reports to them on its work.
The Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China directs the armed forces of the country.
The people’s courts of the People’s Republic of China are the judicial organs of the state. The Supreme People’s Court is the highest judicial organ, being responsible to the National People’s Congress and its Standing Committee.
The Supreme People’s Procuratorate is the highest procuratorial organ, that directs the work of the people’s procuratorates at various local levels and of the special people’s procuratorates.
