China—a Vast Territory
China, with a total land area of 9.6 million squares kilometers as the third largest country in the world, is situated in the eastern part of Asia, on the west coast of the Pacific Ocean. The distance from east to west measures over 5,200 kilometers, and from north to south, over 5,500 kilometers. It has a land border of 22,143.34 kilometers long bordered by many countries such as Korea , Russia, Mongolia , India, Pakistan, Bhutan and Nepal ,Burma, Laos and Vietnam etc.

Besides a vast land area, there are also extensive neighboring seas and numerous islands. The coastline extends more than 14,500 kilometers. There are more than 5,000 islands being scattered over China's vast territorial seas, the largest being Taiwan and the second largest, Hainan.

China —a mountainous country with numerous rivers and lakes
Two-thirds of China’s total land area is covered by hills and plateaus. The Highest peak in the world with a height of 8,828m, Mount Qomolangma is standing on the border between China and Nepal. Others such as Yellow Mountain, leshan, Emei Mountains etc. are also worth of visiting.

Besides numerous mountains, China also has a great number of rivers and lakes. The inland river system accounts for 36 per cent of the total land area in China. The Yangtze River, Yellow River, Heilongjiang River, Pearl River, and Huaihe River are the major ones;Guilin is famous for Li River.China is also a country with numerous lakes, approximately 2,800 natural lakes with total area more than 80,000 square kilometers. Famous lakes like west lake in hangzhou, Namtso Lake in Tibet, Heavenly Lake Tianchi in Xinjiang,qinhai lake etc. attract many visitors.

China —a country characterized by a marked continental monsoonal climate
China has a climate dominated by monsoon winds, which leads to clear temperature differences in winter and summer. In winter, northern winds coming from high latitude areas are cold and dry; in summer, southern winds from sea areas at lower latitude are warm and moist. The four seasons are quite distinct.rain always comes up with the hot seasons. However, China’s complex and varied climate results in a great variety of temperature belts, and dry and moist zones. Different places all have their own climate features.
