Leshan
Transportation
By train:
The city of Leshan is not directly accessible by train, but since the city is only 37km east of Emeishan mountain and is usually visited as a stop en-route to or leaving Emeishan (which has its own railway station), one can arrive by train from Chengdu in the north, or Kunming in the south, to Emeishan and take a bus from here along the express way linking Emeishan and Leshan.
By bus:
The best way to reach Leshan from Chengdu is by bus. Mini buses run by private owners leave from Chengdu for Leshan every ten minutes from most of Chengdu's bus stations, although the Xinnanmen Bus Station in Chengdu is the most frequently used. The trip usually takes four hours . Buses to and from Leshan also use the Leshan Long-Distance Bus Station located northwest of the city center.
By boat:
Although a trip by boat on the Mingjiang river can be pleasant and refreshing, the voyage takes a long time to Chongqing and Yibing. The public boat service is not consistent due to the severe competition from road transportation, and the service is often only available in summer. The fast boat service from Leshan to Yibing is more reliable however and departs from Leshan every afternoon and takes 2 and a half hours to get to Yibing.
City transportation:
Most of Leshan's scenic spots are located on the northern bank of the Mingjiang river while the city itself is on the southern bank. The Mingjiang Bridge across the river connects the scenic sites and can be easily accessed by public bus from most of the hotels in the city and the bus station.
Pedicabs and tricycles are a good way to get about the city and a trip from the city center to the Grand Buddha Scenic area Taxis are widely available here .
The best way of getting close to the Grand Buddha is by boat. Ferry boats run from the city port to Wuyou Temple and Lingyun Mountain. The view from the boat is breath taking and this is a great way to arrive at some of the sights.
