Changsha is the capital of Hunan Province. The history of the city dates back to the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 BC) and Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD220). It is also the centre of Huxiang Culture.
Encompassing 11,819 square kilometers, the city is composed of five districts and four countries with a population of 5,82 million. The area and population of the city proper are 554 square kilometers and 1,51 million respectively.
