Zhan Tianyou Memorial

In May 1905, the General Bureau of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway was established with Zhan Tianyou as the supervisor and chief engineer. Badaling is the highest section of the whole railway. Although it is only 22-kilometer long from Nankou to Chadaocheng through the Qinglong Bridge, the railway must go through the steep Guanou area of Jundu Mountain. He led the technicians to survey and design, and directed the construction at the locale. As a result , it only took 4 years to complete the 201 kilometer-long Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway , two years ahead of the schedule and 14000 kg white sliver saved . On Oct .2,1909, the first train started from Xizhimen ,which became the world wonder at that time.
